Summary of Position

The APHC Doctor provides full General Practice and Family Medicine services to assigned patients/clients. Such services include but are not limited to, diagnosing patient’s condition, administering examinations and tests, submitting prescriptions, applying appropriate medicines and treatments, and administering professional actions to heal illnesses or injuries and to provide guidance for patient’s health practices and conditions.

 

Dimensions

The Doctor reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). There are no direct reports to this position. The incumbent provides medical services in the geographical area of Fairfax, Loudoun, Price William and Arlington counties, and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church Clinic. He/she manages the APHC clinic and is centrally located in that clinic. The Doctor has the authority to bring to the patients those remedies, medical treatments and services as he/she deems necessary, proper, legal and within the parameters and limits of his/her profession and this position description.

 

Nature and Scope

The Doctor is centered and operates from the Accessible Physician Home Care (APHC) clinic. He/she works with the management and combined staff of APHC to coordinate and plan the medical services provided.  This includes reviewing all potential client/patients to determine their suitability for care with APHC and assessing the needs and determining the initial steps and procedures needed for each patient. This also includes following up with Nurse Practitioners and on-site staff  and planning/ arranging for the discharge of patients.

 

The Doctor visits patient/clients and accesses the proper medical needs and services required. Such visits include serving patients at the clinic, nursing homes, assisted – living facilities as well as home bound patients.  He/she administers all proper and necessary medical care possible to remedy injuries, eradicate sickness, restore to health, heal, treat, medicate and administer to the individual needs of each patient. He/she provides physical exams, blood tests and evaluations, administers medication, immunizations and injections, provides appropriate surgeries, wound and injury care, and when appropriate makes referrals to specialized care and prearranged hospice care.

 

The incumbent provides for the comfort and ease of pain within the bounds of the patient’s requirements and professional and legal parameters of his/her medical profession. The Doctor Assures site compliance with all medical/pharmaceutical regulations and provides patients with appropriate education/training/guidance to aid in the progress of their medical needs.

The Doctor works after hours and weekends as needed and responds to medical emergencies. He/she checks regularly for emergency calls.

The Doctor provides and secures excellent and auditable records of all details related to the patient’s admission criteria, needs assessment, recommended procedures and services, condition of patient at each visit, all patient’s comments and concerns and issues, all care, services, medications and recommendations as well as any and all information pertinent to this patient and assures the timely and accurate transfer of all such information to the proper individuals and/or secure locations. The Doctor provides the utmost confidentiality all such records and medical information and reveals it only to the appropriate sources that will also be required to maintain the same confidentiality. In all such cases the same level of adherence to the HIPPA regulations will be required as in the general medical practice.

 

The Doctor provides related, necessary and/or useful training, orientation and guidance to other APHC staff as requested.

 

The incumbent must inform the CEO of any eventuality that adversely affects his/her ability and legal authority to practice medicine in the state of Virginia.

 

Qualifications

  • A medical degree related to the services provided by APHC.
  • A license to practice in the state of Virginia
